Naperville may be getting a little less musical.
The Downtown Advisory Commission is considering requiring street performers to acquire a permit before practicing their craft on the city sidewalks.
The issue was brought to the committee’s agenda after reports that at least one performer has been requesting tips from pedestrians.
City ordinances allow performers to accept tips, but not to charge for their craft.
The idea of permits was met with mixed reactions from the committee. They said it is important to encourage creativity, but don’t want people to feel pressured for tips.
the D.A.C. will discuss the issue at a later meeting and send their recommendation to city council before any legislation is passed.
