A new bill passed through the Illinois General Assembly to help promote a safe environment at park districts.
For the first time, park districts can conduct background checks on minors seeking employment.
Now officials can see if a young potential employee had been convicted of crimes such as a felony, sexual assault, or drug related crimes.
State Senator John Mulroe and State Representative Darlene Senger sponsored the bill that has been in the works for over 3 years.
The Naperville park district employs 194 minors every year. The Governor must sign the bill for it to become a state law.
