A local food pantry is sending more than 2,000 local students back to school with new supplies.
Loaves & Fishes has started distributing the more than nine thousand pounds of various school items to families in need they collected as part of their Packs4Kids program.
Volunteers handed out backpacks including notebooks, markers, and scissors to help give kids a boost heading into the new year.
“If a child goes in and has nothing to contribute to the class or contribute to the pile of supplies, they’re embarrassed, they’re humiliated and it just sets them off of the wrong foot,” said Patrice Lia, a team leader at Loaves & Fishes. “Confidence I think is the key word.”
Clients who registered by the august first deadline can pick up their backpacks now through August 17.
