Men in space, corrupt priests and a bear attack, this year’s Oscars has it all, and the race for the trophy is heating up.
Jennifer Lawrence and Brie Larson both took home Golden Globes for Best Actress this year, but Mazrimas thinks the Academy will go in a different direction.
“This is a tough one to pick, whether they go with the newcomer, I’m going to go old I guess here, I’m going to go with Charlotte Rampling, who will turn 80 in February. They will honor her in a very good role in ‘45 Years’ and her career,” said Mark Mazrimas, Marketing Manager for Classic Cinemas.
The Best Actor category is full of powerful performances, but will it finally be Leo’s year? Not if Matt Damon has anything to say about it.
“I think it falls between Damon and DiCaprio. Matt Damon in ‘The Martian’, has the most screen time of any actor in the film, I mean 95% of the film is Matt Damon by himself. Leonardo DiCaprio for ‘The Revenant,’ the most grueling acting performance I’ve seen since De Niro in ‘Raging Bull.’ I think it’s his turn, and he wins for ‘The Revenant,’” said Mazrimas.
With eight movies nominated for Best Picture and only five spots for Best Director, the last awards of the night will be a tight race.
One movie favored to potentially win both is ‘The Revenant,’ whose director Alejandro González Iñárritu, won both categories last year for ‘Birdman.’
“When you get to Best Picture, Golden Globes gave one to ‘Martian’ and one to ‘Revenant.’ I think it’s the year ‘Revenant’ wins for Best Picture,” said Mazrimas.
But Mazrimas thinks the Directing title could be up for grabs.
Mazrimas explains, “I am going to go out on a limb and say this is a year where the Best Picture and Best Director don’t match up. I’m going to go with George Miller, 70 years old for ‘Mad Max’ winning Best Director.
All the winners will be revealed on ABC February 28th.
You can be part of the Oscars action by predicting who you think will win at any Classic Cinemas theater. Every entry that correctly predicts the seven categories featured wins a prize.
