Morolake Akinosun, a graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School and former track star, made a visit to her alma mater after returning home from the Rio Olympics.
She was welcomed at the school with a red carpet walk and a pep rally in the school’s atrium.
She also received the key to the city of Aurora and had the opportunity to address students at the school.
“I just want to say thank you to the entire Warrior community, especially students, for supporting me these last few months and at the Olympic games, I really appreciate it. It’s amazing to be back here, the walls look a little bit different, but it’s the same school I walked through a little over four years ago,” said Akinosun.
Akinosun earned a gold medal for running in the qualifying rounds of the 400-meter relay, where team USA eventually won gold in the finals.
Waubonsie Valley High School will induct Akinosun into their hall of fame on October 14th.
