Just over eight months after announcing plans to come together, Naperville based OfficeMax has officially merged with Office Depot.
After getting approval from the Federal Trade Commission, the almost $1.2 billion deal was finalized on November 5th.
The new company will take the name Office Depot, INC., but will still operate out of some OfficeMax stores as a subsidiary of the parent company.
OfficeMax’s corporate headquarters, located here in Naperville and employing about $2,000 people will stay open until all details of the merger are worked out and a final headquarters location is chosen.
The CEO’s of both companies will act as co-leaders of the new company until a replacement can be named.
The merger was designed to help the new company better compete with Staples, the number one office supply company nationally.
