Students attended a presentation at Meiley Swallow Hall, by Leslèa Newman who wrote the book, October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard.
On October 7th, 1998 Matthew was brutally attacked and left for dead, in rural Wyoming, just for being what he was, gay.
Author, Leslèa Newman was on the University of Wyoming campus that day to give a presentation for LGBT Awareness week. When she heard of the horrific events, she was moved, as was the nation.
10 years later, she wrote the book, which is a series of poems written from the perspectives of different objects at the scene of the crime.
North central students will also perform the play “october mourning” this month. For tickets and showtimes head over to north central college dot edu.
