North Central College held its 151st commencement ceremony marking a milestone for the 807 students who earned their degrees and made memories that will last a lifetime.
“The most important bridge that we’ve built so far was the bridge of friendship, it’s a bridge that has endured the storms brought by finals and stress, and without which I could be standing here today,” said Miguel Purgimon Colell, North Central College’s student address speaker.
Not only was it a time to reflect on the memories, graduates also received extra words of wisdom from a graduate of North Central College.
“Don’t be guided by what things appear to be safe, always be willing to connect the dots and to remember that you can indeed change the world,” said John Daniels Jr., Commencement Speaker.
The commencement also included Coach Al Carius being recognized for an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Humane Letters.
“Al, you came to North Central College 50 years ago as a teacher and coach, since then you have represented these roles and so much more to so many of us.”
And when all was said and done, students proudly walked across the stage in front of family and friends for their diploma.
“It was amazing, I knew coming to North Central was a right fit for me but I didn’t really understand until I started getting more involved and meeting all friends and getting involved with everything that I did, so it’s crazy it went by really fast but it definitely was a once in a lifetime experience,” said Graduate, Allison Nazorek.
And for some graduates, they are already looking forward to the next chapter in their life.
“Spend time with my family now that I have more free time and yeah for the future, hopefully get my masters,” said Graduate, Sara Rismantab-Sany.
“In the fall I’ll be going to Loyola for their Masters in medical science and then on to medical school from there,” said Cory McCleave.
And although they are stepping out into new adventures, these graduates will forever be North Central Cardinals.
