No Ordinary Life

Glenn King was an Air Force bombardier during World War II. After bailing out of a B-17 bomber behind enemy lines, he was captured and taken to a Nazi prison where he was held captive for 50 days.

During his ordeal he was rationed a small can of tuna fish, but instead of giving in to hunger he carried it with him, where it remained full until the day he was rescued.

His resilience became a subject of sermons at Knox Presbyterian Church, which led to an unexpected opportunity.

“It all started when our pastor told the story about me and a can of tuna fish, and sue and her husband came up to me after service and she said she wanted to write a book about me, and that’s how it all started,” said World War II veteran, Glenn King.

“No Ordinary Life” follows King through his time in the Air Force during World War II.

Writer Sue Johnpeter hopes the story encourages others to persevere no matter what the obstacles in their own lives, as King did.

“He is incredibly honorable, and his ethic for work and family and community is unmatchable and impressive and touching and something we all should emulate,” said Johnpeter.
