Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) science teacher Dr. Peter Dong is one of only four teachers to receive this year’s Illinois Science Teacher’s Association New Teacher of the Year Award, which recognizes K through 12th grade teachers who are in their first to fourth year of teaching for excellence in the classroom.
“It’s always nice to be recognized,” said Dong. “I don’t feel like I’m really doing anything particularly exceptional. At the same time, it’s nice to be recognized for what I do.”
The Naperville resident joined nearby IMSA in 2008 and teaches Modern Physics and Methods in Science Inquiries.
Dong is also one of six IMSA teachers that recently received National Board of Professional Teaching Standards certification, making 33% of IMSA teachers certified.
