Naper Settlement can see the light at the end of the construction tunnel as the Harvard Early Learning Playscape is nearly ready to open.
The 10,000 square foot interactive area for children was funded by John and Rita Harvard, along with a SECA Grant, money from the city’s Capital Improvement Program, and the Naperville Park District, totaling about $450,000.
Construction has taken longer than expected since it’s been a rainy summer, but the end is in sight.
“We’re very excited because many of the special order equipment and materials that we’re using both for the play structure and the splash pad itself are being delivered last week into this week so baring good weather we are hoping that the Playscape will be open to the public sometime in mid-August,” said Debbie Grinnell, Vice President of Museum Services at Naper Settlement.
An interactive game was added for children to match different footprints on the ground with the corresponding Naperville native animals.
The majority of the activities are accessible for children of all abilities.
