DuPage County now has a new facility to help families dealing with divorce.
The DuPage County Family Center will work with the DuPage County Circuit Court System to assist families going through divorce or separation.
The goal is to provide services such as neutral exchanges, supervised visits, and mediations in a child friendly environment.
“When parents live in two separate households it can be extremely difficult on the children to move from one house to another house,” said Sheila Murphy-Russell, Director of the center. “It’s very hard for the kids to be put in the middle of their parents’ conflict. And what all of our services are designed to do is get those children out of the middle of that.”
The new family center is located on the DuPage County Campus in Wheaton and shares a building with the Jeanine Nicarico Children’s Advocacy Center.
Funding for the $5.6 million center includes a Community Development Block Grant, court fines, and funds saved by the county for the project.
