NCC at Chicago Marathon

Former North Central College distance runner Kyle Brady made a dazzling debut at the 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. More than 38,000 participants completed the 33rd annual contest with the seven time collegiate all-american finishing in two hours and twenty-nine minutes. Brady’s time was good for 68th place despite the course challenging the Wheaton native .

“Just the long, drawn out pain of the marathon just over and over definitely takes a toll on you, especially on a day like today where it consistently gets hotter and hotter. It’s definitely a brutal race,” said Brady, immediately following his 26.2 mile run.

Brady ran roughly 100 miles each week while training as a Cardinal athlete, but since catered his training to life after college, where he is an assistant coach with the defending IHSA state champion Neuqua Valley cross country team.

“Just me being able to be around them to being around some sort of team is really, really made a difference this fall in making it a much easier transition from the spring when I was at North Central to the fall,” said Brady.

Uncertain about running professionally, Brady says he is running to see where it takes him. “It’s not like I’m doing it out there cause of the money or cause of anything like that. I just like to run, and just love to kind of seeing the improvement, and love especially being out there with my old teammates and stuff like that so anytime I can get a run in with them is great.”

Brady wasn’t the only North Central College graduate running to a top time. 27-year old Pat Rizzo took 13th place overall crossing the finish in two hours and sixteen minutes. A time slightly slower than his pace from a year ago. Both Rizzo and Brady know their best race is yet to come.

“I wanted to run a little bit faster. I think cause it was my first one, I know some of the experience hurt me a little bit there but I guess I’ll take it for first time,” said Brady.

After working with the Wildcat cross country team, the 22-year old looks to train once again with his former Cardinal teammates during their track and field season.
