Plenty of “Whales” in Naperville held a fundraiser wishing for one of their own.
The one and a half mile “Walk for Whale Wishes” at Highlands Elementary School raised money for the Team Stuckey Educator Scholarship fund.
The scholarship will benefit a graduating senior attending Naperville Central or Naperville North, who will pursue a degree in education.
The namesake of the scholarship is in honor of Highlands principal Susan Stuckey and her husband Jeff. Susan has been battling breast cancer, while Jeff has been the recipient of multiple kidney transplants.
“You have to keep thinking positively and keep charging on,” said an enthusiastic Susan. “I actually learned some of that empathy from Jeff because he has had four transplants now. Either you can either feel down or you can look at the bright spots and take all of the good positive news you get and roll with it.”
Over $15,000 was brought in for the day, with over 600 walkers participating in the event’s first year.
