Gently used homecoming, prom, and formal dresses were recently collected at the three District 204 high schools for the Valley Runway program.
The dresses will be donated to low-income high school juniors and seniors next April.
“We’re going to have recommendations from guidance counselors, dean of students, social workers of names of students, so it’s going to remain confidential and then these individuals will be able to get formal wear free of charge,” said Ann Cluxton, a teacher at Metea Valley High School.
Two more collection dates are planned to make sure every girl has the chance to experience a formal dance.
“When you look at your own life experience at high school, for some kids it’s wonderful some people it can be not as wonderful and difficult because they don’t have the means to participate in the things that are offered,” said Jennifer Rowe, Dean of Students at Metea Valley High School.
