Though spring just started, Ribfest was the topic of discussion at the latest Liquor Commission meeting.
The Exchange Club was hoping to shorten beer tent lines and increase revenue by allowing portable beer vendors around the fest grounds.
But, the commission felt this would lead to more problems at the event.
“This would be a little bit more convenient. But it’s hot, we’ve got a lot of great bands coming, I feel like the lines help deter people from getting that other drink. This might lead to more intoxication and that’s a concern for me,” said Commissioner, Paul O’Toole.
In the end the commission approved having portable vendors, but will only permit them to sell non-alcoholic beverages like water and pop.
Liquor Commission will have two meetings in May, their regular one on the 5 and another on the 12 to go over changes to the code.
