Nancy Voise, current Jefferson Junior High principal, was appointed as the new assistant superintendent for secondary education.
And a new addition to the district will be Page Poehnelt, who currently serves as an assistant principal for District 89 in Melrose Park.
“Page, with the action of the board of education has been approved as the assistant principal at Beebe Elementary School, congratulations,” said District 203 Superintendent Dan Bridges.
Page will take the place of Christine O’Neil, who was named the next principal of Beebe in February.
All will begin their new roles on July 1.
Later in the meeting, the board approved a pay increase for substitute teachers, citing declining fill-rates for subs as a primary reason.
“We’re looking at our fill rate saying, ‘I think we need to step it up, be a little bit more competitive,’ and quite frankly we know what our neighbors are paying, but we think that a difference of ten dollars for example to our neighbor, they’ll come to 203, they’ll take our job at 203,” said Chief Human Resources Officer for District 203, Carol Hetman.
Their daily rate will now be $100, compared to the previous rate of $95, which was first established in 2008.
And absent from the meeting was board vice president Suzyn Price, who announced her intent to step down from the board at their last meeting, but has yet to officially resign.
Once she does, the board has 45 days to fill her vacancy.
The board also approved contracts for several construction projects throughout the district, totaling nearly five and a half million dollars.
