A 46-year-old Hanover Park man working for Naperville company DND International, Inc. has been charged with operating a commercial motor vehicle while fatigued following a fatal crash on I-88 near Eola.
Renato Valasquez is also charged with making a false report of record and duty status, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and failure to yield to stationary emergency vehicles.
Valasquez is accused of crashing into a police car with lights flashing and a disabled semi truck, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.
The crash killed 39-year-old toll way worker Vincent Petrella of Wheeling and seriously injured 38-year-old State Trooper Douglas Balder from Oswego.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says that Naperville based DND International, Inc. has a spotty safety record rating the company at 92.4, which means nearly 93% of all trucking companies have better records than DND.
After repeated calls to the DND International’s office for comment they hung up on us.
Valasquez is scheduled to appear in court February 5.
