Runners can work up a hearty appetite: good news for those taking part in this sweet contest.
Members of Team NEF grabbed a spoon and dug into the “Kitchen Sink” at Colonial Cafe in a contest to raise money for the students in District 203.
They had 30 minutes to try and eat the cafe’s signature dessert, which includes two bananas, six scoops of ice cream, chocolate, strawberry and pineapple toppings, covered with whipped cream and topped with a cherry.
The participants are among those taking part this October in the Healthy Driven Marathon and Half Marathon to benefit the Naperville Education Foundation.
“Well you know, it’s so amazing is that the number keeps increasing each day. As of this morning we are up to 68 runners. And our runners come from all walks of life: we have parents, community members, staff members; and we are really excited to say that we have one community member that’s come forward who is 80 years young,” said Monica Lucibello,
In the end, the winner was Bob Rechenmacher, head custodian at Kennedy Junior High School. He downed it all in an astonishing 5 minutes and 40 seconds. Holy Brain Freeze!
Colonial Cafe donated 15 percent of the bill of those attending to benefit NEF.
