Boris Berian and Brenda Martinez visited Wentz Hall on the campus of North Central College, to discuss their journey to the Olympics, where Berian finished eighth in the 800 meter final and Martinez qualified for the 1500 meters.
The elite runners also answered questions from the young athletes, who were eager to listen.
“These olympic athletes are huge role models to all of us as runners. They are obviously such accomplished athletes and just to see them and ask them the Q and A’s and see that they really are athletes just like us, and the training that they do is really cool to see them in more of a down to earth setting,” said Neuqua Valley Cross Country runner Brynne Winiarski.
Runners from all of the area high schools were invited to this event put on by New Balance, in anticipation of the Naperville Running Companys Twilight Invitational on October 5.
Naperville News 17’s Evan Summers reports.
