Despite the frigid winter waters, The Naperville Fraternal Order of Police joined the Law Enforcement Torch Run by taking a plunge into Lake Loon for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois.
“It’s cold, its not as bad as it has been in the past because theres no ice in the water so its actually nice out today, said Sgt. Ken Gettemy of the Naperville Police Department. “It sets an example and it sets a positive example that people can do anything for people who need them so that’s kind of what we do as police officers and doing the same thing to raise money for the special Olympics it goes hand in hand.”
Sergeant Gettemy raised just over a thousand dollars, which will provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics programs.
