In October, Naperville News 17 ran a story about the Naperville Patriots – the only traveling youth football team in town – and their quest for a consecutive national title.
After traveling down to Florida earlier this month, the 8th grade team managed to do just that, grabbing their fifth national title in 11 years.
Over the last two years, the team has gone 28-0.
“People know the uniform; people know a lot of the kids that participate in the program,” said Doug DiFusco, head coach of the 8th grade squad. “[That’s] especially at the high school level…it’s a lot of pride.”
The team expects many of the players heading to high school to make an impact on varsity squads.
For next year, the Patriots hope to add more teams to the program to accommodate younger athletes.
