Every first Saturday after Halloween for the last three years, something smashing is happening!
“This event, called the pumpkin smash, happens throughout the area at various locations. I believe we’re the only one though that actually puts the pumpkins directly into the soil,” said organizer Angelique Harshman.
The Naperville Park District hosted the event at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, which is a great place to compost the orange fruit.
And to help get those pumpkins compost-ready, kids got a kick out of throwing, jumping on, and kicking their pumpkins until they were a smashed mess.
Naperville News 17’s Aysha Ashley Househ reports.
