The Naperville Park District was awarded a $50,000 Renewable Energy Grant from the Naperville City Council.
The money will be used for solar panels that will be installed on the new Fort Hill Activity Center, similar to those already at Nike Sports Complex. The 117 panels will produce approximately $41,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy per year and save more than $4,000 annually.
“As part of a Park District core value of environmental education, stewardship and sustainability, this is a perfect fit with the new faciltiy to get that renewable energy and cost savings related to that,” said Eric Shutes, Director of Planning with the Naperville Park District.
Naperville’s Renewable Energy Grant Program is funded through monthly contributions made by residential and commercial utility customers on a voluntary basis.
