National Blood Donor Month
Though Christmas is over, there’s still a very important gift you can give – the gift of life. Blood donations usually decline this time of year with the holiday bustle and the onslaught of cold and flu season. That’s why area blood banks are asking you to take some time out of your day to stop by and donate blood. The whole process usually takes about an hour, with the blood donation itself only taking 10 minutes. And if you can’t get in before the New Year, no problem. January just happens to be national blood donor month.
A Naperville middle schooler is making gifts to give all year round. Sophia Martinez started a charity called P’Jammerz, sewing pajama pants and then donating them along with a t-shirt to kids in need. Sophia’s been on the job for two years now and hopes to begin including pants for adults soon. Her latest delivery went to DuPage Pads, just before Christmas.
Preserve the Moment Photo Contest
There’s still time to enter the Will County Forest Preserve’s “Preserve the Moment” photo contest. This is the last month of the competition, which has been going on since May. Though other months had special themes, December’s is an open category. You can submit a photo taken in any Will County Forest Preserve on the forest preserve’s website through December 31. Each monthly winner will then compete for top honors, with prizes going to the top three finishers.
