Illumination Lights Up the Arboretum:

Though Christmas has now come and gone, you still have a chance to celebrate the season at Morton Arboretum with their Illumination tree lights display. Fifty acres of woods have transformed into a magical winter wonderland, with thousands of colorful lights glowing throughout a one-mile walking path. Some effects to watch for are trees that respond with color changes as you hug them, and others that will switch up their look when you sing them a song. The dazzling display of lights is open through January 1.

Surprise Homecoming:

And if you’re in a post-Christmas funk – this will get you out of it. Recently McCarty Elementary School in Naperville was the site of a very special reunion. U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Alejandro Bautista surprised his sons, 4-year-old Benjamin and 9-year-old Nathan, during Nathan’s third grade class assembly. The airman hasn’t been home in 10 months and has been serving overseas in South Korea, making this a happy holiday homecoming for his family.

Grinch Takes Over Downtown:

Anderson’s Bookshop is currently holding their annual Grinch scavenger hunt in downtown Naperville – and there’s still time to find him.  Stop by the bookshop to pick up your scavenger hunt checklist and a good deed tracker booklet – then set off on your search through 26 local businesses. Once you find him, you can “grow your heart 3 sizes” by completing one of the good deeds on the list. A fully completed booklet can be turned in through December 28th for the chance to win a prize – and there’ll be a wrap-party at Anderson’s on the 29th with the Grinch himself in attendance.

Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament:

The 44th annual Jack Tosh Holiday Basketball Tournament tips off today. The tournament is being held at York High School in Elmhurst throughout the week. Metea Valley, Waubonsie Valley and Naperville North will all participate this year. Waubonsie opens against Brother Rice, Metea Valley plays Glenbard East, while Naperville North takes on Elk Grove. The championship game will be played on Saturday night and highlights from the tournament can be found throughout the week on
