Naperville Now 12-22-17

Armed Robbery

A man wearing a black ski mask or scarf around his face held up a local dry cleaning business last night, in the sixth armed robbery to take place in Naperville since the end of November. Police were called to the 1600 block of North Route 59 just before 7:00 p.m. The suspect held a black handgun, demanded money, and fled on foot. He’s described as 5-foot-8, weighing 120 to 130 pounds, and dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. If you have any information, call the police at 630-420-6666.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

This holiday season, Naperville Police remind motorists to drive responsibly. From now until January 2, they’ll be out in full force, actively searching for drunk and impaired drivers in a year-end Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign. They’ll also be keeping an eye out for those not wearing seatbelts. The initiative is part of a statewide campaign.

Last Chance for Santa and Christkindlmarket

Santa Claus will be heading back to the North Pole for Christmas, but there’s still time to see him and drop off your wish list at Naperville’s Santa House. Tomorrow, December 23, is that last day Santa House will be open this year and you can stop by before 6 p.m. to see Saint Nick. Afterward you can swing over to Christkindlmarket Naperville for some last minute holiday shopping. The market will be open through December 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

500th Win for NCC Coach

It was an exciting week for North Central College athletics. On Wednesday, the men’s basketball team defeated Albion College 92-78 for the team’s third win in a row. More importantly, it was the 500th career win for Cardinals head coach Todd Raridon. He is just the 13th active Division III coach to reach the milestone. Coaching at NCC since 2004, he is the school’s all time winningest coach. Raridon previously spent 15 seasons as the head coach at Nebraska Wesleyan.

If you look through this week’s edition of Sports Illustrated, you may notice someone familiar in the Faces in the Crowd section. North Central runner Dhruvil Patel is featured after earning All American honors at the D-III national meet, where the junior finished 3rd overall, helping NCC to its 18th national championship. He was also a key member of the indoor track team that won a share of the Indoor National Championship back in March.
