Naperville Now 11-29-18

Leaf Pick-Up Resumes:

Leaf pick-up is back on. That’s welcome news to the residents of south Naperville, who were not happy when the City of Naperville first announced that after Sunday night’s blizzard, they would be halting the third leaf collection, which would have scooped the last piles from those on the south side of town. After many complaints, and with the assistance of Naperville’s new waste service provider, Groot, the City reinstated the third cycle of collections, which should begin early next week, barring any extreme weather conditions. The City asks that residents move leaves into the street to make the pick-up as efficient as possible.

Commemorative Pavers:

If you’d like to leave your mark, why not do it in a park? The Naperville Jaycees are now selling commemorative bricks to be placed in the new Jaycees Park in Downtown Naperville. 1,000 of the 5” x 10” bricks are available to be inscribed with up to 64 characters to memorialize family members, celebrate milestones, or honor someone special. They’ll then be permanently placed within the soldier course along the walkway surrounding the outdoor smart park. They are currently $200 each, and you can find more information about purchasing one on the Jaycees’ website. https://www.naperjaycees.org/about/naperville-jaycees-park/naperville-jaycees-commemorative-paver-program/

Christmas Luncheon:

Naperville senior citizens and those in need are invited to the 35th annual Christmas Luncheon, hosted by the Naperville YMCA and the Naperville Park District. It’s a service made possible by volunteers and donors, who provide a festive meal, a sing-a-long, Bingo, and a visit from Santa himself. The luncheon is at 11:30 a.m. on December 25 at the Chicago Marriott Naperville – make sure to make your reservations by December 17 by calling 630-527-6599.

Naperville Chargers to Orlando:

The Naperville Chargers are going to Disney World! No they didn’t win the Super Bowl, but the Junior High Unlimited and Pee Wee tackle football teams did qualify for the Pop Warner football nationals in Orlando. The two Chargers programs won the state championship and the Mid America Regional Championship to qualify. For more on the Chargers journey to nationals, check out this week’s Sports Story Sunday by signing up at nctv17.com/subsribe. Best of luck to both teams!
