Naperville Half Marathon
Though the temperature at the start of the race was a chilly 30 degrees, almost 4,000 runners came out for the Healthy Driven Naperville Half Marathon & 5K yesterday morning. Money raised from the event will benefit 12 different charities. Former University of Illinois runner Colin Mickow won the men’s half marathon with a time of 1:07:50, and Erika Edmonson won the women’s race in 1:23:59.
Women Entrepreneurship Conference
About 150 women came throughout the afternoon on Friday to North Central College’s inaugural Women Entrepreneurship Conference. Women at the event networked with and learned from 11 accomplished panelists on the ins and outs of starting a business. The event was held for both experienced entrepreneurs and women who just have an idea for starting a business and are looking for tips getting started.
Structure Fire on Ellsworth
A structure fire on Sunday left a single family residence uninhabitable. At 12:02 p.m. yesterday fire department personnel arrived at the 100 north block of Ellsworth Street. In total, 11 pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel responded to the scene. No civilian injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Football Playoff Matchups
The football playoff times and matchups are now set for this weekend. All four of our local teams in the post season will play on Friday night at 7 p.m.
In class 7A, Benet Academy will play at Maine West. It’s the second straight season these teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs after Benet won 35-13 at Maine West last year.
In class 8A, the DVC Champion Naperville Central is in the playoffs for the second straight year and will play at Plainfield South. Neuqua Valley is back in the postseason after a year absence and will play at Warren, and Waubonsie Valley also returns to the playoffs after missing out last year. The Warriors will play at Bolingbrook.
