Sam’s Club Closes

Naperville’s Sam’s Club is closing. Joining six others in Illinois, the Route 59 store is closing due to underperformance and its final day open will be January 26. Yet as one store closes, another opens- Aldi is in the works to take a place on Route 59 and 95th Street where a Fresh Market grocery store has once been slated to go.

Fire and Fury Demand

Anderson’s Bookshop reports a high demand for Michael Wolff’s new book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” which gives a behind-the-scenes look before and after the Trump election. Since the release, Anderson’s received a partial shipment of 30 books and already sold those copies. Many are on the waitlist and the Naperville Public Library reports an equally high demand for their copies as well, with more than 250 people on their waitlist for the book.

Enchanted Railroad This Weekend

This weekend it’s all aboard at the Morton Arboretum for their annual Enchanted Railroad. Kids of all ages are welcome to enjoy the miniature world of a two-level display as ten model trains wind through the scenery. Tickets are free and on a timed basis. The Enchanted Railroad runs from January 13 to February 19.

Strike Out Cancer

Four of our local schools teamed up at the Fox Bowl last night to raise money for St. Jude’s. Waubonsie Valley took on Naperville North while Metea Valley hosted Neuqua Valley with donations being made for each strike recorded in the two matches. The Strike Out Cancer event has already raised more than $500 and showcased the camaraderie that exists between the Naperville area girls bowling programs.

Naperville Central girls basketball hoped to remain undefeated in the DVC, hosting crosstown rival Naperville North who is unbeaten since the calendar flipped to 2018. The Huskies were able to get out to an early lead behind baskets from Lauren Platou and Greta Kampschroeder. But Mia Lakstigala took the game over in the second half, scoring 25 points in a variety of ways. The Redhawks stay perfect conference play after a 65-43 victory over Naperville North.
