Central Park Place
The Historic Preservation Commission passed by unanimous vote the designs for the Old Nichols Library and “Central Park Place.” The landmarked library will get an upgraded and replica roof, new doors, windows and light fixtures among other historically accurate renovations. “Central Park Place” will wrap around the library and consist of commercial and residential space. The project is being developed by Avram Buildings, with designs from Kluber Architects and Engineers – the estimated cost is $21 million.
The intersection of Route 59 and North Aurora Road will act as a four-way stop today after a car crashed into an electrical box on the corner. Crews will take the traffic lights out of service to deal with the damage. The Naperville Police Department said to expect delays and avoid the area if possible, as work on the intersection is expected to last into the afternoon.
Laughing Lincoln Preview
This Sunday, all are invited to Central Park for the dedication of the cornerstone that will seat the “Laughing Lincoln” sculpture. The sculpture will depict Abraham Lincoln as a jovial 30-year-old, the age at which he helped Joe Naper carve out DuPage County from Cook County. The 19th-century county fair-style celebration will include food, drinks, and entertainment and lasts from 1-5 p.m.
