City Data Portal

Naperville City Council got to workshop Naperville’s new open data portal last night. The city’s director of IT, Jeff Anderson, presented the how-to’s of the website, noting how different maps, charts, and searches can be utilized by city staff and residents. How the city allocates funding, crime reports, data on sustainability, and many other statistics are features on the website. Council members remarked on the usefulness the data portal will be, comparing it to Naper Notify, which provides helpful information to those in and around the Naperville community.


Home Depot Dock

This morning, the Naperville Home Depot partnered with the Ross Bishop VFW post and Benedictine University to build a floating dock and beautify the area around Lake St. Benedict. The Home Depot Foundation awarded a $20,000 grant for the one-day job as part of its Celebration of Service. The finished project is meant to serve as a tribute area to honor veterans and is expected to be completed this afternoon.


Elementary Schools Recognized recently ranked its top 100 elementary schools in Illinois, with both Districts 203 and 204 dominating the list. Nine of the top 10 schools are from D203 and both districts make up 17 of the top 25. The list was compiled by evaluating schools’ test scores, diversity, student-teacher ratios, and other factors from the U.S. Department of Education. announced its ranking of the state’s top school districts last month, with D203 at third and D204 coming in fifth.


Jordan Newham

Being a national champion has its perks. For Jordan Newham and her Vanderbilt University women’s bowling teammates those perks include filming a segment for Pickler and Ben, a nationally syndicated talk show featuring country music star Kellie Pickler and journalist Ben Aaron. Newham was one of the state’s top bowlers at Metea Valley, finishing third at the state meet in 2014 and seventh in 2015. Vanderbilt won the NCAA Women’s Bowling National Championship in March over McKendree University.
