Man Sentenced to 17 Years in Prison

A Chicago man was sentenced on Wednesday to 17 years in prison for stealing $51,500 from a professional gambler from Naperville. Forty-nine-year-old Robert Chencinski pleaded guilty to one count of robbery after he intentionally rear-ended the victim’s car and stole the large sum of cash on August 10, 2015. After a short chase by the police, Chencinski was found and arrested. Chencinski will serve half his sentence before being eligible for parole.

  

Southwest Community Park Update

The Naperville Park District applied for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant, also known as an OSLAD Grant, to help fund the Southwest Community Park project. The district is seeking the maximum $400,000 development grant for phase I of the project, which will include athletic fields, trails throughout the park, a splash pad, and other amenities. The board of commissioners recently approved the issuance of up to $15 million in bonds to help fund the rest of the project.

 

Quigley’s Slogan Contest

Quigley’s Irish Pub turns 20 years old on November 17 and to celebrate, they’re looking for a new slogan. Through September 19, anyone can swing by the pub and fill out a form with their creative slogan idea. The winner, decided by Michele, Michael, and Nancy Quigley will receive two t-shirts and a $50 Quigley’s gift card.

 

Indian Social Worker Cycles Through Naperville

Indian social worker Dnyaneshwar Yewatkar will be stopping at Naper Settlement on Sunday as part of his three-year cycling journey around the world to spread the message of Mahatma Gandhi. He started his US leg of the tour in San Francisco and his Naperville stop will be included in Naper Settlement’s Celebrate Naperville festivities.

 

NCC Football Home Opener

Tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. North Central College football plays its home opener against Washington University live on NCTV17. The Cardinals look to move to 2-0 on the season after a 70-14 week one victory over Lake Forest. The game will also be streamed live on nctv17.com as NCC continues its quest for a third straight CCIW championship.
