Park District Grant

The Naperville Park District will get a boost in funding for its performing arts programs this season. The Illinois Arts Council Agency provided a $7,900 multidisciplinary program grant for the park district’s Elan Dance Company, Magical Starlight Theatre, and Millennium Carillon programs. The park district applied for this grant earlier in 2018. The Illinois Arts Council has also provided partial support for the park district’s dance programs since 2009.

City Student Commissioners

The City of Naperville is inviting Naperville high school students to fill student positions on several city boards and commissions. The Planning and Zoning Commission, Riverwalk Commission, Downtown Advisory Commission, Historic Preservation Commission and many other boards are accepting students. Preference is given to high school seniors, but all high school students may apply. Applications are on the city’s website and instead of a resume students can submit a statement of interest.

Sean Hayes at Anderson’s

Television and Broadway star Sean Hayes is coming to Naperville with his new picture book. Best known for his role as Jack McFarland on NBC’s “Will and Grace,” Hayes is also a writer, and is bringing his new book “Plum” to Anderson’s Bookshop, which was co-written with his husband and accomplished composer Scott Icenogle. “Plum” tells the story of a young orphan girl named Plum who’s determined to help save Christmas. The authors will come to Anderson’s for a book-signing event on November 27 at 7 p.m. and tickets are available online now.

Football Preview

It’s that time of year again, the time when Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley football meet on the gridiron for the District 204 Prairie Classic. The host Warriors come into the game a perfect 2-0 after wins over OPRF and Libertyville, while the Wildcats sit at 1 and 1 and look to bounce back from a week 2 loss to Stevenson. The game will be broadcast live starting at 7:20 p.m. on NCTV17 and NCTV17.com.
