Tech Company Opens Naperville Office:

SMS Assist is expanding to Naperville, adding up to 400 employees in the process. The fast growing technology company focused on streamlining property management needs is headquartered in Chicago, but will be opening a new center of operations at 2135 City Gate Lane, as a way to grow their team with suburban talent and strengthen their services. Hiring is currently underway; they plan to open in October.

Charleston Row II Approved:

The Charleston Row II development was unanimously approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission at last night’s meeting. The Aurora Avenue project will feature two buildings housing eight townhomes in the same style as the first Charleston Row development on that same street – a 3.5 story six-unit townhome building that is currently nearing completion. The project will go to City Council for final approval.

Free Health Fair:

The Islamic Center of Naperville is partnering with the Community United Methodist Church and the ICN Free Clinic to provide a free community health fair this Saturday. It’s the second year for the event, which will offer those 16 and older a chance to get services like blood glucose monitoring, flu shots, and vision screenings, and to speak to practitioners from a number of different specialties ranging from optometrists to dieticians. Though the event is geared toward promoting better health, organizers also see it as a chance to show the good that can come with cooperation between different faiths. The health fair is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Islamic Center.

Visitation for Pradel:

A public visitation for Mayor Emeritus A. George Pradel will be held this weekend at Naperville City Hall. Visitors are welcome from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, after which there will be a private funeral. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Arthur Ray Foundation, which was created in Pradel’s honor, and will distribute the money to his favorite charities. Pradel died on September 4, just one day shy of his 81st birthday.

Naperville Athletes in NFL:

The NFL returns tonight and as the season kicks off we spotlight some Naperville area athletes taking the field in the pros this fall.

Naperville Central’s Cameron Brate looks to make good on his six year, 40 million dollar contract extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brate and the Bucs will be in town to face the Bears on September 30th.

Former Waubonsie Valley tight end Troy Fumagalli was drafted in the 5th round this spring by the Denver Broncos, but the former Warrior will spend at least the first 8 weeks of the season on Injured Reserve after offseason sports hernia surgery.

That injury was a bit of good news for Naperville North graduate Matt Lacosse, who made the Broncos 53 man roster as, you guessed it, a tight end.

Lacosse’s former Naperville North teammate, James O’Shaughnessy returns for his 2nd season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 2010 grad and his Jaguars teammates made it to the AFC Championship game last season.
