5th Avenue Redevelopment:

Last night city council once again tabled discussion on moving forward with Ryan Companies as the possible developer for the proposed 5th Avenue development. Council heard concerns from community members who say they want to reset the process and start over. The group voted to postpone a decision for one month while Ryan Companies works with city staff to create a community engagement plan.

District 204 Enrollment Down:

Enrollment in District 204 is decreasing – that’s the big takeaway from the results of the demographic study that was discussed at last night’s board meeting. The decline is a result of large graduating senior classes and smaller enrolling kindergarten classes. There is also a lack of space within 204’s boundaries for residential development, meaning there aren’t many new households being built. The district will use this data, which includes projections out to 2021, to plan future school boundaries, make decisions about what to do with older buildings, and where to place programs.

Remembering Marge Walsh:

Marge Walsh, matriarch of the well-known Wehrli family here in Naperville, died Monday at the age of 96. Marge was the first female lifeguard at Centennial Beach from 1942 to 1945, and was honored by the Naperville Park District just last year for her accomplishment. She was a lifelong resident of Naperville and will be remembered at services this Friday. Her obituary asks in lieu of flowers, please take a friend to lunch, have a Miller Lite, and “BE LIKE MARGE.” Service information can be found at

Hurling Club Win:

The Naperville Men’s Hurling Club won the Junior B Division Nationals in San Francisco over the Labor Day Weekend.  The team rallied for a semifinal win over the Baltimore hurling team and then beat Madison in the final. Hurling is an ancient Irish sport that combines skills from many different American sports. If you want to learn more about Hurling and the Naperville Club, head to
