Trains were delayed for about two hours last night at the Route 59 train station when a suspicious package was found there. Naperville police say a bag was left unattended between two newspaper machines. The DuPage County bomb squad determined the package was no threat to the public and resolved the situation before 10 p.m.
Century Walk Restored
The restoration of the brick relief “Man’s Search for Knowledge Through the Ages” is complete, and was rededicated at a special ceremony yesterday. Representatives from Century Walk, the city and the library were all on hand to view the restored piece in front of Nichols Library. This comes after an 81-year-old driver crashed through the wall last summer, creating a six-foot hole that cost more than $50,000 to repair.
First Day Back to School
It’s back to school for District 203! Today thousands of kids across Naperville made their way to the classroom for the first day of school. Despite the threat of rain, many kids and parents still took time to document the new school year. District 204 begins classes one week from today.
Pendergast Transfers to Oregon
We’d like to send our congratulations to Naperville North alum Judy Pendergast, who recently announced her decision to transfer to the University of Oregon. Pendergast is the girls cross-country state record holder, winning the state title in 2015 with a time of 15 minutes, 54 seconds. After being named All-Ivy League as a freshman at Harvard this past year, the long distance specialist will transfer to the top Division I running program in the nation. The Oregon women won the triple-crown last season, winning the National Championship in cross country, and both indoor and outdoor track.
