India Day Parade

Naperville residents came out to Knoch Park yesterday to celebrate India Day. Started in 2008, Naperville’s celebration has already grown into one of America’s largest celebrations of Indian independence with over 30,000 people attending last year. The festivities this year included Indian food and music from Grammy Award-winning Bollywood singer Suhkwinder Singh. You can check out the highlights from the parade on NCTV17.com

 Election Candidacy Packets

Starting August 21, petitions for candidacy for the 2019 Naperville municipal elections will be available at the Naperville Municipal Center. Candidates must be registered voters in the City of Naperville who have lived in the city for at least a year. There are five seats on city council up for re-election, including the four-year position of Mayor. Incumbent Mayor Steve Chirico announced his re-election campaign last month.

Noon Whistle Brewing

Beer fans rejoice! Noon Whistle Brewing could be opening a production facility and taproom in Naperville. The location is still to-be-determined, but the Naperville Liquor Commission voted to expand the Class P liquor license cap to allow Noon Whistle to open a location, pending their approval of the site. This would be Noon Whistle’s second location, along with their original site in Lombard.

Chance for Sports

Over the weekend, a senior from Neuqua Valley hosted a fundraiser for her own nonprofit “Chance for Sports”. The organization collects used sports equipment and sends it all over the world to impoverished countries. Anuva Shandilya created the company when she was just a freshman but now it’s a family and District 204 affair, with board members coming from Waubonsie and Metea Valley. The fundraiser was hosted at Knoch Knolls Park and included food, a volleyball tournament, and relay races. The money raised helped fund more sports equipment and shipping costs. If you are interested in helping the nonprofit, check out Anuva’s website at chanceforsports.org.
