Police Presence on Hercules Ln

Yesterday, a large police presence and SWAT team gathered near the intersection of Hercules Lane and Tupelo Avenue. Area residents received a Naper Notify around 4 p.m. asking them to shelter in place. Police called it an “isolated domestic incident” and completely blocked off Atlas Lane, Hercules Lane, and Catalpa Lane. Officers were armed with shields and rifles prior to SWAT’s arrival. After about two hours, police unblocked the streets and released a statement saying they were able to peacefully resolve the incident, but they are still conducting follow up and are unable to release more information.

 

Park District Board Meeting

Smoking was stamped out at last night’s Naperville Park District Board Meeting after they voted 6-1 in favor of an ordinance banning tobacco products from Naperville’s parks. Commissioner Bill Eagan was the lone vote against the ordinance as he was in favor of language addressing the use of tobacco on golf courses as well. Board President Mike Reilly said banning tobacco fits in with the park district’s mission of promoting healthier lives and communities in Naperville.

 

Liquor Commission Restaurant Sales

According to a Restaurant Association Report from yesterday’s Liquor Commission meeting, Naperville saw a 5.3 percent increase in food and dining sales last year. Naperville Development Partnership President Christine Jeffries presented the report and added that in 2008, the amount of total retail sales for food and dining was $268 million compared to 2017’s $405 million – up more than 50 percent over the ten year period.

 

India Day

This Sunday, the India Day parade and celebration will be taking over Knoch Park. Last year, 33,000 people participated in one of America’s largest India Independence Day celebrations with food, music, and fun. You can catch the live parade coverage right here at NCTV17.

 

NCC Football Rankings

Football is now just a couple weeks away and North Central College is once again considered the team to beat in the CCIW. Yesterday the Cardinals were picked to finish first in the preseason coaches poll for the third straight season over Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan. NCC has won the CCIW title two years in a row and ten times in the past 12 seasons. Ranked seventh by D3football.com, the Cardinals open the 2018 campaign on September 8 at Lake Forest College.
