Naperville Population Boost

Naperville has seen an increase of 5,988 residents to the community. A recent special census indicated that Naperville’s population is now 147,841 residents, which is up from the 2010 census count of 141,853. This growth in population means that the city should receive an additional combined $2.38 million by 2021. That comes from the local use tax, motor fuel tax, and income tax, which are the three state taxes distributed based on the population. City officials report they expect to see estimated revenue of $120,603 later this year.

West Suburban Angels

Last night, two Naperville native entrepreneurs pitched to the West Suburban Angels investment group. One was David Simnick, CEO and Co-Founder of Soapbox Soaps – a company that donates a bar of soap for every purchase. The other presenter was Ashley Rossi, founder of Tiny Human Food – a cold-pressed baby food company meant to offer healthier and tastier baby food. After each of their pitches, the Angel investors asked the presenters questions about their businesses. The West Suburban Angels have not yet made decisions on whether or not to back the companies.

Happy Birthday Illinois!

It’s Illinois’ 200th birthday! This Saturday you can stop in at Naper Settlement for a day of fun Illinois-themed activities. Visitors will get to vote for their favorite Illinois president, see how a historic fire pumper works, and learn about our state’s vast history. Check it out from 11-4 and maybe even stop by for free ice cream from Colonial Café from 2-3:30 p.m.

Will Chevailer Competes

Neuqua Valley football and rugby star Will Chevalier is competing once again on the national rugby stage this weekend. The Wildcat senior is taking part in the Boys Elite U18 North American Invitational for the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy. Earlier in the week, Chevailer was named to the pool of 16 players of which the USA Rugby Youth Olympic team will be selected.
