DuPage River Flood Safety

Safety improvements may be coming to the DuPage River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed an environmental report of the river and created plans to reduce the chances of flooding for the 900,000 at-risk residents. The tentative plan includes improving the Lisle Levee and buying out or flood-proofing 42 buildings in affected areas. There will be public meetings on August 15 and August 16 for residents to learn about the project and give their input.

Naperville 203 EdTech Google Summit

Today is the first of the two-day EdTech Google Summit hosted by Naperville School District 203. About 500 educators from 203 and neighboring districts will attend to learn about Google Apps for Education from the EdTechTeam. The event features a keynote presentation, as well as demonstrations and breakout sessions meant to help educators better integrate technology into their classrooms.

Back-to-School Safety

August’s “Safer Naper” topic is back-to-school safety. Tonight at 7 p.m., the Naperville Police Department is hosting a presentation called “Safety for the College Bound Student” for college freshman and their parents. Tomorrow at 6 p.m., the police department is hosting a self-defense class for high school and college-aged women at Safety Town.

Indian Prairie Lacrosse Showdown

The 2018 girls lacrosse Indian Prairie Showdown finished up three days of competition at Frontier Park this weekend. Hundreds of girls from across the country went head to head in on the fields behind Neuqua Valley High School. Several local teams took home division championships including True Lacrosse IL winning U13, True IL 2022 won the U14 division and True IL 2021 won the 2021/2022 division.
