Smoking Ban Considered

Smoking may soon be banned from all of the Naperville Park District’s parks. Last night, the park board of commissioners considered an ordinance that would direct smokers to the nearest parking lot or street with parking. As presented, the ban would continue to allow smoking on the park district’s two golf courses. The park board will vote on the issue at their August 9 meeting.

 

Ibtihaj Muhammad in Naperville

Last night, a bronze-medal Olympian stopped by a packed Anderson’s Bookshop. Ibtihaj Muhammad, the first Muslim woman to represent the U.S. while wearing hijab at the Olympics, visited local fans and discussed her new book “Proud: My Fight For An Unlikely American Dream.” Muhammad competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal in fencing. Since then she wrote her book to tell her story the struggles she faced with depression and how she’s become a role model for young women of color, women in the Muslim community, and women in male-dominated sports.

 

Party That Shall Not Be Named

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter returns to Downtown Naperville this Saturday for a celebration of the famous wizard’s birthday. The Party That Shall Not Be Named will transform Nichols Library into Hogwarts while witches and wizards of all ages can explore spots around town for tons of magical fun. You’ll be able to check out the sorting hat, a magical hair salon, and even windows that come to life. You can check out the Harry Potter Party from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Best of Naperville 2018

And the votes are in for Naperville Magazine’s readers’ choice award winners, covering the best of what Naperville has to offer across 40 different categories. Some winners of note in the dining and food section were Casey’s Foods for favorite grocery store and Catch 35 for favorite seafood restaurant. In the personal service and healthcare section, OrangeTheory Fitness won as the favorite fitness club. And in shopping and retail, Two Bostons won as the favorite pet store and Dean’s Fine Clothing was picked as the favorite men’s store.
