Reward Offered In Shooting:
A private group is offering a $45,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting death of Matthew Lange. The 37-year-old was fatally shot as he sat in his car in the parking lot of Scullen Middle School on January 27 of this year. Naperville Police are looking for any witnesses, or anyone with information about Lange or his vehicle, a silver 2013 Hyundai Elantra, in the time surrounding the homicide. Speed Awareness Day:
Slow down drivers – today is Illinois Speed Awareness Day. The Naperville Police Department is joining this statewide initiative and taking a proactive approach through both education and enforcement. In the year 2015 alone, speed was the cause for 34.2 percent of all fatal crashes. Just dropping your speed by 1% can reduce injury risk by 2%, serious crash by 3%, and a fatal crash by 4%.
DuPage County Fair Opens:
It’s opening day for the DuPage County Fair. This will be the 63rd edition of the annual event, taking place in Wheaton. Besides the usual mix of 4H exhibits, animals and fried foods, visitors can also check out new offerings like a monarch butterfly way station garden and a music venue with extra lawn seating. The fair’s open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m., and runs through Sunday.
North Soccer Stars on Red Stars:
A trio of former Naperville North girls soccer stars recently finished up a run with the Chicago Red Stars reserve team. Abbie Boswell, Kayla Sharples, and Zoe Swift joined forces as teammates for the first time since winning the state championship in 2012. The Red Stars Reserves is part of a league made up of the top amateur players in the country. After wrapping up her career at Kentucky this spring, Swift will look to continue professionally in Europe. Sharples will head back to Northwestern this fall for her junior year, while Boswell will also be entering her junior season at Alabama.
