Rauner Signs Bill 5123

Today Governor Bruce Rauner signed legislation that now gives DuPage County the power to disband its election commission. The legislation put forth by DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin amends the Election Code to allow DuPage to dissolve the commission and consolidate its functions with the county clerk’s office. Officials say merging the two offices could save taxpayers at least $300,000 a year by combining staff and streamlining services. The legislation becomes effective January 1.

Construction Begins

Starting today there will be a lane closure on 95th Street at Gateshead Drive east to Plainfield-Naperville Road. The closure will allow crews to fix a sinkhole on the curbside eastbound lane of 95th and is planned to take three days. And other work of note, the Naperville Metra Station will begin maintenance on its parking lot. Some permit parking spaces will be affected in the Kroehler and Burlington lots, which will also be closed completely on July 28 and 29 for crews to complete the bulk of maintenance. Traffic will also be limited to one-way at the entrance of the Parkview lot.

World Triathlon Championship

Napervillian Brian Dickhut will head to the World Triathlon Championship in Gold Coast, Australia. Dickhut has been a member of Centennial Beach and a triathlon athlete since 2011. He’ll head to Australia as a member of Team USA for the championship from September 12-16. Dickhut’s friends at Centennial Beach’s “Beach Bum Club” will also be hosting a fundraiser for the athlete on August 12 at 1 p.m. during their annual picnic, to help with Dickhut’s expenses come September.
