Officer Cleared In Walgren Case:
An internal investigation has cleared Officer Brett Heun of any wrongdoing in the suicide of 16-year old Corey Walgren. Documents obtained by the Chicago Tribune show an inquiry into the matter by the Naperville Police Department determined that Heun followed procedure and did not threaten the Naperville teen when questioning him on January 11th about the contents of his phone. Shortly after that meeting, Walgren fell to his death from a Naperville parking garage. Terry Ekl, the attorney for the Walgren family, who has filed a lawsuit against Heun as well as the police department and District 203, dismissed the findings of the internal investigation, claiming it was not rigorous, and simply an attempt to rationalize what happened.
New Washington Development:
A new development is on its way to Washington Street after a vote at last night’s City Council meeting. A mixed used building, aptly called “The Washington,” will be comprised of residential units and commercial space at 720 North Washington, near Ogden Avenue and just north of Downtown. Mayor Steve Chirico abstained from the vote, because his business, Great Western Flooring will be moving to that development. Eight residential rental units and two other businesses will occupy the remaining space.
