Petition to Change Plans

An online petition objecting to a new senior housing complex in town has garnered close to 500 signatures. Residents are opposed to the Avenida Senior Living Center, a 146-unit development proposed for a site near Ogden Avenue and Mill Street. Those who’ve signed the petition ask for the developer to follow Naperville code and not re-zone the land from single-family to multi-family in order to build two and three-story buildings on the site. The petition says the high-density project is a problem, which doesn’t allow for enough off-street parking. The Planning and Zoning Commission will discuss the plans Wednesday night.

Congressman Bill Foster hosted a LGBTQ Panel this weekend at the Alive Center in Naperville. Foster, along with other panel members discussed the importance of tolerance in the community and how to recognize challenges that many LGBTQ youth may face.

Cliff Preston Tribute

This weekend family and friends of the late Cliff Preston gathered along the Riverwalk for a ceremony and dedication of a permanent memorial of his life. Entitled the Cliff Preston Tribute, the area along Farmers Plaza and a commemorative plaque helps to recognize Cliff’s efforts in building the Riverwalk and his dedication to maintaining the site. Cliff died in June of 2016.

Seven on Seven Football Jamboree

The big summer football sports story has been Payton Thorne transferring from Metea Valley to Naperville Central. The quarterback continues to shine as he led the Redhawks to a 3-1 record in the District 203 vs. District 204 seven on seven football jamboree.  Naperville Central’s lone loss came to Naperville North who finished a perfect 4-0. The Huskies came from behind to beat both the Redhawks and Warriors behind fantastic play from new starting quarterback Drake Davis. Waubonsie Valley finished 1-3 with several tight losses but did get solid quarterback play from Tanner Westwood. Neuqua Valley went 2-2 on the night as Jake Eskoff looks ready at quarterback.  The Mustangs finished 0-4 but new starting quarterback Garrett Despot did have a few nice moments.
