Ribfest Attendance Down About 20 Percent:

Though final numbers have yet to be tallied for this year’s Naperville Ribfest, the event’s chairman Joel Carlsen says estimated total attendance was down 20 percent from last year, largely due to the one and a half days of inclement weather that forced closures for safety. However, new changes made this year, like the RFID wristbands to help speed up the lines were a hit, with nearly 20 percent of festival goers using them. Though attendance was down, Carlsen estimates that they still raised significant proceeds to donate to charities the event supports.

Municipal Center Parking Deck Construction:

Changes are on deck for the parking deck at the Municipal Center. Construction began this week to firm up and improve the nearly 30-year-old structure, with crews patching concrete on the upper level, reconstructing planter boxes, fixing staircase hand rails, replacing trench drains and re-constructing a ramp and sidewalk on an entrance to the building for American with Disabilities Act accessibility. Work on the upper level should be done by the end of August – but as it’s being done in phases starting with the Eagle Street side, no more than half of the parking spaces on the upper level will be out of service at any time, and one entrance to each level will remain open. This is the second phase of a five-year effort to revitalize the deck and surrounding areas.

Molly’s Cupcakes To Town:

There’s a sweet new business headed to town. Molly’s Cupcakes has announced they will be opening a location right in downtown Naperville, at 30 West Jefferson. Their original shop is in downtown Chicago, but many cupcake lovers are thrilled they’ve decided to bring their daily, freshly made treats to our neck of the woods. No official opening date has been set.

Neuqua Alum Mikey Dudek At Guaranteed Rate Field:

Former Neuqua Valley star wide receiver Mikey Dudek and some of his University of Illinois football teammates signed autographs and met with fans at Guaranteed Rate Field last night before the White Sox hosted the St. Louis Cardinals. The former Wildcat was a freshman All-American in 2014 before missing the 2015 and 2016 seasons with back-to-back ACL injuries. After returning for seven games in 2017, Dudek will be back in the starting lineup for his senior year this fall, as the Illini kick off the season on September 1 against Kent State. Fellow Neuqua Valley grad Donnie Navarro and Naperville North’s Drake Davis will also suit up for the Illini this season.
