Naperville Now 07-04-18

Ribfest Opens:

Get ready to Ribfest! Today marks the opening of the 31st annual Naperville Ribfest, where you’ll find some old favorites as well as some new offerings, including a wristband ticket. Of course a highlight is the ribs themselves – and this year two new vendors will be serving them up, to bring the ribber total up to 11. Carnival rides and live music are a standard, and with headliners like Stray Cats, Pitbull, Jake Owen and Steven Tyler, there’s bound to be a crowd. You can find more ticket info for those shows online, or if you’re just looking to hang in the South Park, this year, you can buy a ticket for just $5 – and kids 11 and under get in free. The fun takes place starting at noon in Knoch Park.

Election Judges Needed:

If you’re swept up in the patriotic spirit today, put it to good use and sign up to be an election judge. Will County is looking for some for the upcoming November 6 general election. You can apply on the Will County Clerk website, and if you’re accepted and go through a training course, you can earn up to $150 for each election.

Tick Season:

The time for ticks is here – so if you’re out on a hike or just working in the yard, keep an eye out. A mild winter and high rainfall mean the pests are even more plentiful this summer. Experts say wearing long sleeves, long pants and light colored clothing are the best defense. And if you are bit, remove the tick by grabbing close to its head and slowly but firmly pulling it straight up. Pets are also susceptible to their bites so make sure you give them a check as well if they’ve been outside.

Where’s Waldo:

Here’s a guy who knows how to wear the red, white and blue – as for where he’s hiding we’ll give you a clue! Waldo from the popular “Where’s Waldo” series is hiding yet again in 36 local businesses around Naperville this July. This year marks 30 years that Waldo has been in print, and in a new twist to this hunt this year, you can also find him hiding online at two of the Naperville locations, including our own website, NCTV17.com. Anderson’s Bookshop can get you started with a passport – if you find him in twelve spots, you’ll be entered in a raffle for a number of prizes.
