Parkland Students in Naperville
Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School brought the March For Our Lives movement to Naperville over the weekend. The town hall meeting was held on Saturday at DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church and featured a discussion about gun violence. The core message of the group was to encourage young people to register, educate, and vote. Naperville was the second stop on the group’s “Road to Change” tour, and the movement will stop in 20 more states on their journey.
Old Nichols Not Big Enough for Distillery
The Old Nichols Library has been ruled out as a possible location for a distillery coming to Naperville. After the Liquor Commission recently heard a proposal from Derek Krauss and Joe Rehbein about opening a distillery in town, there was initial excitement about using the historic library for their venture. However, after meeting with the real estate company handling the leasing for the property, it was determined the space is not big enough. The petitioners will continue to look for a space in or around Downtown Naperville.
Greene Barn Open House
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County hosted an open house for residents at the Greene Barn. Attendees were invited to tour the barn and provide suggestions for what the building could be used for. Popular ideas were a wedding venue, cross country ski rental, and using the building for classes. The forest preserve district recently put over a million dollars into restoring the barn.
Softball Players Honored
Congratulations to Naperville North senior softball player, Janelle Honaker on her recognition from the Illinois Softball Coaches Association. Honaker was named to the All-State 3rd team, making her the only local softball player on the list this season. The Huskie shortstop was integral to her team with her bat, while also making stellar plays with her glove. With a batting average well over .400, Honaker helped North to a 9 game improvement this season and a regional quarterfinal win over East Aurora.
