A Life Saved
A local businesswoman is being applauded for her life saving efforts. Kandiss Hernandez, Executive Director of Center Stage Theater, purchased an AED for the theater two months ago after learning how effective they are during a grandparents class she took at Edward Hospital. And last Friday night, that purchase saved a man’s life. An 80-year-old man attending a performance at Center Stage had a heart attack, but through quick thinking and the use of the AED his life was saved.
Downtown Naperville is turning the page with their new summer sculpture series, which is now officially on display. These 15 unique book benches are spread throughout downtown, sponsored by local businesses and decorated by different artists. You can check out these books through mid-September.
Television star and author Chris Colfer will be returning to Naperville July 18 at a presentation event hosted by Anderson’s Bookshop. The “Glee” alum will be promoting his newest book “The Land of Stories 6: Worlds Collide.” For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit Anderson’s website.
Congratulations go out to former Neuqua Valley pitcher Dave Gerber. The 2013 grad was drafted in the 29th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners. Pitching exclusively out of the bullpen, Gerber finished his career at Creighton University as the school’s all-time leader in saves, while boasting a career ERA under 2.00. The Wildcat alum was able to help Neuqua Valley make it to the state tournament in 2013. Dave’s older brother Mike is Neuqua Valley’s all-time home run leader, and currently plays for the Detroit Tigers AA affiliate, the Erie Seawolves.
